The first article in the series published in the December 2011 issue, discusses the relative merits of synthetic and natural ingredients in perfumery. By the way, as a bit of a stickler for the accurate use of English I was distressed to notice that before they published it, someone on the editorial team at Shropshire Magazine had altered my use of 'aromatic principles' to 'aromatic principals' - principle in the sense of characteristic constituent (as used in chemistry) not principal in the sense of first or main . . . oh well they did also arrange it all rather beautifully on the page and integrate it with pictures and captions!
The plain version of the article, without the pictures and captions and with my original wording (complete with whatever errors I made myself) is here too for those who find plain text easier to read.
February 2012 issue of the magazine contained the second article in the series looking at the relationship between perfumery and the traditions of St Valentines. The slightly longer text and plain format version is also available here and on the Blog.
March 2012 issue of the magazine is out now containing the third article in the series looking at the history of Mother's Day, violets and their special place in perfume. The unedited text and plain format version is also available here and on the Blog.
The next article in the series is scheduled for the May issue and will seek to answer one of the questions I'm most often asked: 'So how did you come to be a perfumer?'.
